Partners…

Human birth has never been the completely solitary experience that is common among animals. It is an awesome, beautiful moment that should be shared by people who care about each other.

Let’s get the OXYTOCIN flowin’…

Partners, you play a vital role in the childbirthing process. Your intimacy with Mama is something special and as a Doula I love to facilitate an atmosphere where partners can connect and get as involved as they feel comfortable. When a Mama feels safe and nurtured, oxytocin can increase causing labor to progress and preventing possible labor augmentation such as the use of synthetic oxytocin (pitocin).

Childbirth is a beautiful experience, but it also can be intimidating when you just don’t quite know what to do to provide comfort and coping skills to the laboring woman. As a Doula, one of the key elements to my approach is providing partners with the tools to directly provide comfort measures and coping throughout the labor process. You can be as involved as you want and I’m here to help!

A bit about Oxytocin

This hormone is the center of attention in childbirth.

Oxytocin is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and secreted by the pituitary gland. This important hormone plays a crucial role in the childbirth process and also helps with male reproduction. In women, oxytocin is responsible for signaling contractions of the womb during labor. The hormone stimulates the uterine muscles to contract, so labor begins. It also increases the production of prostaglandins, which move labor along and increases the contractions even more.

Guess who can help keep this beautiful hormone going? Partners.

If you have a partner who would like to be involved in your birthing process, as your Doula, I would love to help make your birth a positive and connective one between the two of you!
